Vilcabamba

Vilcabamba is located in the southernmost province of Ecuador in Loja 27 miles south of the City of Loja. Loja is an easy 50-minute plane ride from Quito, Ecuador’s capitol. The picturesque valley of Vilcabamba is situated approximately 1500 meters (5000 feet) above sea level in the majestic Andes Mountains. Being in the center of the world, it maintains a spring-like temperature of 18° to 28° Celsius (65° to 82° F) year-round.

One of the most beautiful places in the world, Vilcabamba’s greatest assets are its beauty, peace and tranquility, warm and friendly people, pure air, wholesome foods, and extraordinary climate. It is a magnificent place to live, retire, have a vacation home, or investment property. Vilcabamba attracts people from all over the world. Known as the “Sacred Valley”, Vilcabamba has been variously called "The Land of Eternal Youth” and the “Valley of Longevity”. Fruits and vegetables are grown year round and there is abundant mineral-rich water. The negative ion count, that gives a sense of tranquility, is off the charts. The residents of Vilcabamba are a warm and welcoming people.

Loja

Loja is one of the most appealing cities for many travelers to Ecuador and is a welcome jaunt off the familiar tourist trail. The Province of Loja offers a unique combination of paramo, cloud forest, and jungle. Moreover, Loja’s capital city of the same name and the area’s natural wonders remain unsullied and largely undiscovered by travelers because they are tucked away in the southern most portion of the country. Travelers willing to make the trip can look forward to breathtaking vistas, indigenous markets, an amazing National Park, colonial architecture, and unparalleled hospitality.

Located in the Cuxibamba Valley, Loja is surrounded by lush, green mountains that cascade down into beautiful valleys with rushing rivers. Established in 1548, Loja is one of the oldest cities in Ecuador.  Its town squares are full of statues, frescoes, and other remnants of its colonial past.  Original structures, with their arched doorways and wide balconies, stand adjacent to similar new construction designed to complement the city’s historic architecture. This harmony of old and new is something that Loja intentionally aimed for and achieved beautifully.

Loja established itself as one of Ecuador’s most forward-thinking cities when it became the first to make use of electricity, as early as 1897.  It has continued this trend of well-planned modernization and industrialization, while still maintaining its historic charm. Visitors to Loja can tour centuries-old churches like the Fatima and Santo Domingo. They also have access to conveniences often found only in much larger cities, including several universities, shopping centers, and hospitals.  Its technology is up to par, and its nightlife rivals some of the country’s liveliest destinations with its restaurants, bars, and other happening hotspots. The city has also thrived financially as a result of its carefully planned economic development.  It has also been internationally recognized for its efforts to protect its environment and natural resources.
